Ken Krasny is the owner of the Law Office of Kenneth M. Krasny in Houston, Texas where his practice concentrates on international and domestic taxation, commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, real estate and matters of importance to individuals such as wealth transfer, asset protection and business succession planning. Ken brings over 30 years of experience to Texas Mediators in the areas of law, finance and accounting in developing solutions to thorny legal problems for businesses and individuals.
Ken began his legal career at Tenneco Inc. in 1977 as the youngest attorney ever hired by the then largest Texas headquartered company handling tax and business disputes and negotiating the terms of acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and other business transactions eventually rising up to become Corporate Tax Counsel and the company’s highest ranking tax attorney. In that capacity, Ken also held special responsibility for all tax and commercial legal matters in the State of Louisiana where he often traveled to negotiate with the senior-most members of that state’s government on matters to state government and the company.
After leading the break-up of Tenneco into three public companies in 1996, Ken joined Enron’s Tax Department as a Senior Tax Director to bring his problem solving and negotiating skills to Enron’s retail energy construction and energy efficiency business and then to Enron’s worldwide LNG, Middle East and Caribbean basin operations in negotiating joint ventures and other contracts with foreign governments, foreign investors and joint venture partners to construct and operate pipelines, electrical generation and transmission facilities, water desalination facilities and gas fields. As part of this effort, Ken drafted a tax white paper advocating the liberalization of the Saudi government’s tax policies and eventually successfully lobbied them to liberalize their depreciation policies.
After the Enron bankruptcy, Ken entered private practice and concurrently became the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Signet Maritime Corporation where he used his negotiating and personal skills to renegotiate and vastly expand Signet’s credit lines and tug and barge activities. After expanding Signet’s assets, revenues and profitability forty-fold, Ken joined Frontier Drilling in 2007 where he helped organize the Cayman enterprise’s tax department and later was given additional responsibility for the day-to-day legal matters associated with the operation of its international drilling fleet, including litigation matters. Ken’s executive involvement with drilling vessels operating 24/7 worldwide and moving from drill site to drill site was the ultimate test in negotiating and resolving continuous contract issues and conflicts with different regulators, suppliers, bankers, co-workers, counterparty attorneys and others so the vessels could drill and then relocate to the next job timely..
When Frontier was sold to Nobel Corporation after BP’s Transocean drilled well blew out in the Gulf, Ken brought his transactional and negotiating skills to Burleson LLP and the firm’s oil and gas, commercial and individual clients. While at Burleson Ken donated is time to help the elderly, the less fortunate and women with their tax, divorce and family issues.
Ken is a member of the ABA and Texas Bar Tax Committees on Partnerships and has spoken regularly on corporate and personal legal matters such as mergers, estate planning, divorce planning, and corporate compliance. Ken is AV Rated, 5.0, “Preeminent,” by Martindale-Hubbell, a member of the Texas and Florida Bars, admitted to the U.S. Tax Court, the United States Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeal and the United States Middle District Court of Florida. Ken received his B.B.A. (Magna Cum Laude) and J.D. (Cum Laude) from the University of Miami and is married to his college sweetheart, Lynn.
